High dpi. The main reason I bought it. When using Canon Photo Glossy II paper it produces sometimes stunning results. Fast, quiet, compact and with the accompanying software is easy to maintain. It is also very reasonably priced. Cons: The ink cartridges are expensive but if you shop around and buy in bulk it is possible to make them somewhat affordable. And if you are printing many photos the ink is constantly running out. If it sits for any length of time it is best to just run the cleaning program before you print a photo. I like it and consider it one of my better purchases. But I purchase Canon products exclusively. Their a2e film camera hooked me some time ago. (and this printer is sleek if that matters to you)
Canon printers have two great features and that's why when my iP3000 died I bought the iP4700. The printer prints double sided! This feature isn't optional or an add on and it is automatic. The separate ink tanks are the best, as each color is used a cartridge is replaced. Great feature! It might be a little slow, but this printer is used at home and time isn't a big factor. The review I read said it was noisy. Booting it up takes a while and is loud, but the printing itself is quiet.
I purchased the Canon PIXMA iP4700 as a replacement for an old Canon i860 printer that was on its last legs. The PIXMA iP4700 printer is a low-cost printer with a lot of bang for the buck. Text quality is as advertised, very good but not perfect. As for photo printing, I feel that this printer delivers beautifully. Great color blending, crisp detail, and true color reproduction provide exceptional quality photos. The five ink cartridges all have electronic "chips" in them that control ink flow through the nozzle... call the cartridges "smart cartridges". The ink is a little pricey ($12 to $17 each depending on where you buy) but cheaper if you purchase them in a bundled set. When replacing the ink, I use only genuine (new) Canon ink cartridges. I find that the picture quality is better than using remanufactured, compatible or refilled cartridges. Another plus that I like about this printer is that every day paper stock is held inside a cassette that keeps dust away from the paper - I'm comparing this printer to my old Canon i860, where all paper was held on a tray in the back of the printer and was exposed to dust and humidity. Also, unlike the i860 printer, the PIXMA iP4700 has full duplex printing capability - it will print on both sides of a sheet of paper in one pass. No more reversing page one to print page two on the other side. Setting up the printer was easy. Auto print head calibration made things even easier. The iP4700 is relatively quiet and fairly quick at printing. Except when printing in duplex mode... the process of reversing the paper and then printing the other side of a page is sluggish at best. But for the low price, I have no complaints at all. The duplex mode works perfectly - that's the important part in my opinion. Overall, I am very satisfied with the price, features and print quality of the Canon PIXMA iP4700 printer.Read full review
I have been using Canon photo printers for almost 10 years doing on-site digital photography and there is nothing like them. Each generation seems to improve on speed and quality. I regularly have 2-3 printers cranking at events and have incredible results. My only complaint is the ink. My last round of Canon printers were the 4300's and although the ink for the 4700 is about $1 cheaper per color, it seems to only be about half the size. I go through a lot of ink and never use anything but Canon ink. I have never found any of the knock-offs to be consistent in their results.
I bought this copier mainly for printing pictures. My last canon bit the dust after 7 years. This new printer prints excellent quality pictures. I am very happy with it. I have aan all in one canon that I use for black and white printing, copyong and faxing. I have use the IP4700 for printing some documents and they came out excellent and the speed was pretty quick. All in all it is a fine printer for the money and I like that you get full tanks of ink with it and not just starter sample tanks. This id why I stay with Canon printers, good quality at an affordable price.
I'm a beginner author. I have two books that have been published - The Horseless Horsemen: Jude (5 Star Review) and Rita (4 Star review). And I wanted to print bookmarks that were worth being called bookmarks as a marketing device to go with them. So I got some 200lb paper. ...and subsequently found that it wouldn't even begin to go through my Epson WP4020. I searched online for "the best card stock printer" and found the iP4700 along with two others that were (1) Out of my price range, and (2) WAY out of my price range. This printer is only slightly bigger than a desktop computer, and is absolutely amazing! 200lb paper is really(!) thick and stiff, and the iP4700 pulls it right in. For printing on Premium Glossy Photo paper, I couldn't ask for better quality there, either. Since I print a lot(!) I could wish for bigger tanks, but the advantages of the iP4700 turn that into only an extremely minor annoyance.Read full review
THIS PRINTER IS BETTER THAN ANY PHOTO PRINTER I EVER HAD. I WAS A BIT SCEPTICAL BECAUSE OF THE PRICE BEING SO LOW. FORM THE VERY FIRST PHOTO I WAS AMAZED. WOW that is all that I can say if you are thinking of getting this printer, it's worth the money. The printer is small for a photo printer but the prints that are made are fine quality. Overall I recommend this printer for anyone that needs a good photo printer and doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg.
I like it because it's just what I need for printing edible images. It's compact but produces great pictures and easy to clean!
