    Fabulous and incredibly well written book by a beyond brilliant writer .

    Rare is it that you have as objectively a well written book as this . Very ratiocinative and exciting to read ! You feel you are back in early 20 th century Los Angeles , California . The book is so alive that it compares in a way to the late and great Thomas Hoving’s great historical work “ Tutankhamun , the untold story “ !

    A good book.

    This book is comprehensive, well-written, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the biography of William Mulholland, and/or the history of Los Angeles 1870s to 1920s, or in the water system of the city, especially the conception, design and construction of the Los Angeles-Owens River Aqueduct. The book is thoroughly footnoted and indexed, and Ms. Mulholland's prose is lucid and accessible. Even though she is a great-granddaughter of William, she does not pull any punches when describing the failures in his life and career.
