1982s "Creatures of the Night" was going the be the bands make-it-or-break-it album. Although Ace Frehley is depicted on the cover, he neither wrote for, nor played on the album. This album actually has a few people stepping in for Ace --Steve Ferris, Bob Kullick, and most importantly Vinnie Vincent. This album was a true return to form for the band. After a lack of focus, they came back with their finest album since "Love Gun" (1977). The band sounds superb. Simmons and Stanley sound committed, as if they wanted to prove that they still had it in them to rock. Although a few different guitar players stepped in for Ace, the band sounds very cohesive. Eric Carr really shines and his drumming is intense. His playing was more proficient and superior to Criss. His drumming gives the album a real shot of adrenaline. And although Ace Frehley was a huge part of the band, surprisingly, his presence is not really missed. The guitar playing by Steve Ferris, Bob Kullick and Vinnie Vincent is superb. Vincent soon became Ace Frehley's permanent replacement. The songs on this album are all excellent. All rockers, with only one balled, the beautiful "I Still Love You." It was Simmons and Stanley's best work in years. Vinnie Vincent also co-wrote three of the songs and proved to be a good writing partner. There are no filler songs here. Every song is a winner. The album opens with the classic title song. It has a killer riff and awesome solo by Ferris. The album never looses momentum, it has one killer song after another. Other standouts include "Rock and Roll Hell," "I Love it Loud" "I Still Love You," and "War Machine." KISS attempted to regain focus, credibility, and popularity with this album. Although the album was not a huge hit at the time of its release, they mostly succeeded in achieving their goals. The band was reborn with this album and used it as a springboard to regain popularity with a sting of platinum albums in the 1980s. This album was also the end of an era, as it was the last KISS album to feature the band in makeup. This is probably the best post Criss/Frehley KISS album. If you are starting to build a KISS collection--this is one of the first albums to buy--along with ALIVE, KISS, Destroyer, and Love Gun.Read full review
This was the last great Kiss album to come out until the origonal lineup re-united and made Psycho Circus. They were clearly underestimated as musicians. Also the wierd thing is that Ace Frehley is pictured on the album but did not play a single song. This is a great album. The song I Love It Loud is the best one on the entire album. However War Machine, Rock and Roll Hell, I Still Love You, Saint and Sinner, Creatures of the Night, and Danger also were great as well. Come to think of it this album didn't have a single song I didn't like. Eric Carr also got to show off his thunderous drumming style. A great album and worth buying for any Kiss fan.
This is the first album that Kiss did without Ace Frehley, even though he is featured on the make-up version cover, is the last album with make-up, until the reunion tour in 1996, and it is also a very good album, by the way. There were numerous guest guitarists on it, including Ace's replacement Vinnie (Cusano) Vincent, who replaced Ace in his own make-up, and called himself the wiz, for the tour of this album. The album has the hardest drumbeat of any Kiss album released before or after it. Eric Carr's drums are really emphasized on the whole album which makes this unique, because none of the other Kiss albums emphasize the hard drum sound like this one does. Eric Singer of Kiss has hard drumbeats, but does not do them on Kiss albums, like how this album was done. It eventually went gold. If you want a Kiss album with a hard hitting drum sound throughout it, then this is the one and only one released with that sound, so far to get.Read full review
I Do like KISS 1982 CD CREATURES OF THE NIGHT its a cool KISS CD i do like the music that is on the CD and the reason i did purchase this CD because i do like KISS Music i like Gene Simmons the BASSIST of the band i like his songs WAR Machine and I Love it loud i have been a KISS Fan for along time. KISS is a very loud Metal Band. they first started out in 1973 36 Yrs Ago Creatures of the night would be a perfect choice for a kiss cd if you like early 80s kiss music this is the last lp with their makeup on their faces after 1982 they took off their signature makeup so people can see what they look like without the makeup on their faces. i really like kiss music and they do alot of wild things at their concerts. i think kiss cd is an excellent cd and people do have their personal taste in music i dont look at the band kiss as wicked i really dont they rock real hard on the stage at their concerts i love kiss alot i use to collect kiss albums when i was growing up in the 80s and 90s.Read full review
Start to finish a great Kiss Hard Rock record. After the flute styling and overall light vibe of Music from the Elder Kiss came back in a big way with Bob Kulick(Bruce's older brother) and Vincent Cusano(Vinnie Vincent)playing guitar.
