Synopsis
It's America in 1962. Slavery is legal once again. the few Jews who still survive hide under assumed names. In San Francisco the I Ching is as common as the Yellow Pages. All because some 20 years earlier the United States lost a war--and is now occupied jointly by Nazi Germany and Japan. This harrowing, Hugo Award-winning novel is the work that established Philip K. Dick as an innovator in science fiction while breaking the barrier between science fiction and the serious novel of ideas. In it Dick offers a haunting vision of history as a nightmare from which it may just be possible to awake.

    • Top favorable review

Great book, brings you to a whole different place.

Condition wasn't what I expected, I would say fair. It had writing in the margins and full length crease in cover.

    • Top critical review

      Fragmented Plot and Syntax

I do not recommend. The plot and syntax is fragmented and difficult to follow. The structure of the plot is not linear and changes without warning. Do not expect the plot to follow the TV series. The Television series is much better, which is quite unusual. Most screenplays do not give a novel justice. This is an exception. How Philip Dick won a Hugo award for this disjointed novel is beyond me. It just proves that it is all in who you know in powerful places.

    • Book versus Netflix movies

The book is rather narrow when compared to the expanded four seasons of episodes on Netflix. The book is a good basis for how the movies developed. A good value to purchase and read anyway.

    • It makes little sense at first to name it this but stick around and things will make sense.

Still reading it but I find myself intrigued by this "possible future" book that is about America if Japan and Germany had won WWll.

    • Germany and Japan won WW2 and the USA is an occupied country.

Philip K. Dick makes other science fiction writers look like navel-gazers in a cul-de-sac.
