    Powerful, convenient

So far the Dyson vacuum is far better than the one that it replaced, and it cleans the carpets much more thoroughly. It is not as heavy as some critics had me believe, and it came with 8 handy attachments, which I have yet to use. I like the long extension wand that allowed me to vacuum the stairs without lugging the vacuum along; it stayed at the bottom, and I only needed to stretch the wand and hose to reach all the way to the second floor. The power cord is conveniently long, too, which saves me from replugging as I move from room to room. I expected the roller brushes to stay cleaner, and not become wrapped with dog fur, but it hasn't been too bad yet. So far, it has made the job of vacuuming much easier.

Don't buy if you are using it for long carpet that you need to vacuum while pulling

We bought this vacuum only for our long threaded area rugs. We use our Dyson V6 stick vacuum for everywhere else. (We love their stick vacs) The problem with the Animal ball vacuum is that it is too difficult to lock (and keep locked) at 90 degrees so that you can repeatedly vacuum while pulling. Whenever I try to push if forward with the head elevated off the ground the locking function gives way and the head falls down, then I can't push it forward anymore because it pulls on the carpet so hard that it can only functionally be used on long carpet when pulling backwards. I gave it three stars because it would work okay on short carpet or other areas where you are not required to lock it's position. For my use type it is the most annoying vacuum I've ever used.

  • Great suction and everything is easily attachable.

I love the easy empty waste canister! The suction is good and the carpet/rug cleaner is awesome with the swiveling to get under everything. The hose is a little stiff and harder to manage than the carpet cleaner, so all of those options are not as easy to use. I wish that the bare floor attachment could go onto the carpet cleaner area instead of on the hose attachment. It would help if the "user's manuel" included more about all of the attachments and explained things with words instead of just pictures. I will have to go online to find more instructions (and hope that I will find them). The machine looks new and clean, so the refurbished option with great savings worked for me!

  • Excellent Vacuum!

I was impressed at the good condition of the refurbished unit. You could tell it was not brand new, but you had to look very closely. Appeared to have new filters and seals. Only four stars because it’s not the miracle vacuum that Dyson markets it to be. It does clean better than any vacuum I have ever owned. Temper your expectations that vacuuming will somehow be magically fun and effortless and you will be satisfied.

  • I expected way more.

UPDATE: After owning this vacuum for 9 months, I can officially say this is the worst vacuum I have ever owned. It is so cumbersome to use, it makes me want to never vacuum. I was mostly underwhelmed by this vacuum. I thought by purchasing a Dyson I'd be automatically inducted into an elite subculture of privileged consumers fortunate enough to afford a truly elevated vacuuming experience. I expected the vacuum to become an extension of my limbs, where I could maneuver effortlessly around the house sucking up dirt, dust, debris, and dander at will. But this is just a vacuum, and not an overly impressive one. The number one fatal flaw is the rigidity of the hose. It's so tightly coiled, that you can only extend a portion of it before other sections start retracting back into place. You can barely step two feet away from the base before it starts springing back pulling the vacuum toward you. Vacuuming higher surfaces, upholstery, ledges, and fans, at the least, seems unmanageable, if not outright laughable, Some reviewers and the manufacturer say you have to "break it in" over time or massage it, or train it, or some ridiculous method. Others say it maintains its difficult structure regardless of their efforts. I say it should be fully functional out of the box. Why should I have to struggle with my vacuum or hope that it breaks in order to get the full benefits from it? Second disappointment may just be my ignorance. I thought all the attachments would somehow be stored on-board the unit. Again I expected to be able to transition from floor vacuuming to pet hair removing, literally like a transformer. Unfortunately, only one of the tools mounts to the base. The other tools have to take up closet space piled messily on a shelf. Third, maneuverability is no better or worse than my cheap Dirt Devil Walmart special. In fact it may be worse because the unit is heavier, making it more difficult to lift and reposition it in difficult to reach areas. Pointing the ball in the right direction isn't as intuitive as it appears either. It's hard to explain, so I won't. Also, the cord is mounted too low on the machine, making it uncomfortable to grab it and whip it around to avoid running over it. You know what I mean... the vacuum cord dance we all do... it's not a good dance partner. Finally, the mechanism to release the vacuum from its standing position and to lock the vacuum back into the standing position seems ill thought out. It never feels like you're doing right. Because there's no physical release lever, you use the weight of the vacuum to "Kachunk" it into reclining mode. And there's no satisfactory feedback that says it's in back in locked standing position, leaving you unsure if it will flop back down or stay standing. Yes I'm aware that the vacuum goes into hose suck mode when it's properly in standing position, but that doesn't make up for feeling like the first thing to break is likely to be the position locking system. Overall I definitely expected more. The good news and the bad news is that the vacuum sucks; meaning it functions, but definitely not a pleasure to use.

  • Heavy and clumsy.

While this machine does a really good job of getting dirt up it is sooo heavy. I cant get the tools to work. No suction. How does the small beater attachment work? Powered by suction, its own power WHAT?? This sort of thing should just be intuitive and its not. The instructions are all pictures that do not help so once I got past putting it all together I couldnt understand the stupid pictures. And what is up with the annoying air blowing quite forcefully straight up into a persons arms???? It blows right into my sleeves! Not at all impressed really. For that reason. I think Dyson would have this down by now. Never ever had an issue with getting tools to work even on the cheap models. I so miss my Kenmore. Im thinking Ill look for a replacement wand for that as the tools are such nice quality and then sell this Dyson. The weight really bothers me. Why does it need to be this heavy? I feel this is more for a burly man.

  • 2nd Time around with Dysom

Owned a Dyson for 13 yrs, when my pup chewed the cord off I tried another brands and their version of suction.it was awful. Came back home to this newer Dyson ball. It’s smoother, lighter, easy to maneuver, and the original cyclonic suction! If you want dust and dander gone, Look No Further. BUY!

  • Refurbished Dyson Animal

Overall a good vacuum. The initial assembly was a little unusual, but it went together after a little twisting and turning. It rolls nicely with the large ball and makes transitions to different surfaces very easy. The unit is heavy, don't let anyone tell you differently. I have an old Oreck which was exceptionally light, but this is as heavy as my mom's old Hoover upright. It's definitely something you don't want to have to lug up and down the stairs anymore then you have to. I can handle it, but a frail 70 year old woman will probably find it difficult. The motor must pull heavy amps on start-up because the lights dim whenever I turn it on. I have an older small cordless Dyson Animal vacuum that I bought ten years ago and it's a champ, it's lightweight and great for pet hair clean-up.

  • Dyson review good

I'm 65 and have been accostomed to using Oreck Vacuums. The Dyson is quite a bit heavier to push around however there is no doubt the Dyson suction power far exceeds the Oreck in that area. If Dyson makes a vacuum as easy to push as the Oreck, I would be extremely interested in purchasing.

  • This has awesome suction power

I would have loved to have given it 5 stars but the spinning roller bar thing was making a weird “flapping” noise. Thankfully, I registered it and got the 6mo warranty with Dyson directly and they fixed it right away so no issues here!
