    Painted it black and now I use it all the time.

    Actually I bought this as a spare because the white lens hood is huge and can attract unwanted attention to the camera. I've painted it matt black and now it's much less obtrusive and I use it all the time. The original white lens hood will only go back on the lens if I ever sell the lens. PS If you do this, disassemble the inner and out casings, and only paint the outer. Sand the surface first with very fine sand paper. I covered the red dots with tiny bits of sticky tape so they wouldn't get painted, but in practice you don't need to see the red dots.
