Satellite link is light years ahead of early gen Garmin handhelds. Altimeter and compass seems pretty spot on too. I am impressed by the performance and find the touch screen so much easier to use; Yes, its hard to use with gloves but I think the ease and speed of navigating is worth having to remove gloves to use. Battery life seems to vary a lot when using rechargeables so keep spares. It is heavier than expected but size is comfy to hold and handle. Overall a great GPS and am super happy with the purchase. CONS: The Basecamp software is old and dated. Garmin has scaled back the capability of the latest version; Some features seem to be missing compared to old versions.

I expected a lot more. I upgraded from a really old base model garmin, so this had to be better right? Somehow the 700 takes longer to acquire the satellites, is less accurate, and the interface is more complicated. I'm just trying to use a basic map and compass features on it at that.

Like to 3-inch screen. Boots fast after the initial acquiring of satellites. With lithium batteries, run time is good. Has many, many functions and it was difficult to learn to use with info in Owners manual. Online manual was difficult to find specific instructions. Had to call Garmin to get all the settings right.

Unit needs to have a better user manual to explain how to use all the different features. Comes without any good maps preloaded. Have to sync with your phone to use live geocaching. Unit loves to eat the batteries. Used 2 sets of batteries just trying to figure out how to get started to setup live geocaching. Still haven't figured it out. Not what I expected for the price....

It’s a great handheld unit that packs a lot of features. It should fit my bill just fine.

Purchased this to replace a Garmin 600 I have used for years. The 700 as a bit faster, had blue tooth and wifi and possibly a brighter screen

User manual does not specify whether activities or classic view are used in it, a lot of redundancy built into unit. Manual is not clearly written and software is screwy. If you have multiple units, you have to purchase new maps for each device. If you purchase used maps, some functionality lost.

Satellite acquisition seems much faster and more reliable in chancy conditions than my earlier GPS units. The only drawback for me is the relative stiffness of the 2 buttons, but this can be overcome by settings which make just about everything happen through the touch screen. Overall, far easier to use than my eTrex Legend HXc.

I had a garmin vista for years worked good. But wanted to up grade. So I got this one. Took like 3 days on YouTube to get how everything works would have been easy if I would have had the order version first. Don't come with topo maps. But took the SD card out of the vista and working fine. And there are free maps on line. I like it so far.
