  • The Arcanum-- Fascinating reading

If you have an interest in the history of ceramics, porcelain, or the decorative arts, this book will hold your attention. Porcelain was the 'white gold' of the Eighteenth Century, and being able to produce it would make any man--or King-- rich beyond their dreams. Yet that isn't the way it turned out for the man who discovered it, or the King who kept him prisoner. The description of the ancient dungeon-like room where the kiln was firing with an early batch of porcelain-- with the stone walls cracking and popping with the stress and the heat-- and the sweating, hungry men in their ragged clothes who made the magic happen, will stay with you forever. Highly recommended.
