    We can learn something from the past

    I’m grateful for seeing the wonderful play in Chicago and following up with the factual, detailed background to so many of the founding fathers. Chernow is on my favorite biographical author list with Doris K. Goodwin and David McCullough for making our history about the people who were present and accounted for so many battles in and out of the war for independence. We can see today how difficult governing is compared to conflict. I’m often catching myself reading a passage and reflecting on its relevance to America today.

    Simple but the book is so much more.

    I love to learn about history especially when it is the truth. My ancestors fought in the French and Indian War as well as the American Revolution, War of 1812, etc. and I served during the Viet Nam War. Plus I am a Yankee by birth and aware of the areas and people that are being named in these pages. It is eye opening to learn the who, what, where, when, and how of my ancestors. While the writing is not always the easiest, the meaning is and it makes one feel how real the people of this time were and what they had to endure in order to create this wonderful country of ours. The way it is told makes it easy to picture the events of that day.
