    Hand-Held FLIR Viewer

    I had been trying to get one for a few years, but the prices were always too high. I got one for about $250 (new), and was very pleased with the unit. The only bad bit of design is that the POWER icon is grayed out, and frankly invisible, so I spent 20 minutes trying to turn it on after charging it. operationally, it is great, I wanted to use it to detect hot spots in electronic designs, and it is ideal. not a lot of image detail, but very good for this kind of application. Having a usable thermal detector for electronics is incredibly handy, and worth this price point, but not so ideal at $500+. keep in mind, this is a close in viewer, NOT for distant objects.

    Great product with some limitations.

    Works well but the temperature measurement is separate from the video display. The area of the temperature measurement is a few inches in diameter at close range <12" so it will average over a good part of the video screen. I'm not sure why Flir does not take the temperature measurement off the video, rather than a separate point detector. Seems like all the flir handhelds do this.

    Use in automotive and Hot permit work

    I use this camera in Automotive and AG repair where is use it to find hot spots on engines, bearings and dead cylinders. I also use it on Job sites for hot work , where the camera function is great because I can take a picture and send it to the customer to prove the site was left with out hot spots on it. The refresh rate is at times very slow but overall a good unit for the price, well built and Handels being bumped and dropped fairly well.
