Don't know why this strobe has gotten bad ratings. Works well with my Alpha 58 camera. Don't use it professionally; however, no doubt it would work great in a professional venue. I really like the way it syncs with my camera, in all modes, and especially like the included video light.

This flash was supposed to be awesome. It could've been awesome. It's bright, recycles quickly, and is consistent. WHEN IT'S NOT OVERHEATING. Have read multiple reviews online in regards to countless others experiencing the same issue. I've used Canon flashes before I switched to the Sony DSLM system and have never had this issue before and for a flagship flash at the cost that they're selling this for, this is a huge disappointment. Have not been able to find a mod or fix for this issue so I cannot offer anyone looking to buy one of these any help.

Overall a very good flash. I use it with a Sony A6000 and while it makes the camera a bit top-heavy it works very well. Plenty of power, very accurate TTL metering, very fast recycle time and lots of other options. I love the way the head rotates to support vertical shooting as well as horizontal. My only criticism is the overheating. When shooting a couple of events I have had the unit overheat after an hour or so of medium use. Both times it was on a sunny day when I was using it to provide fill in HSS mode. I've heard this reported by others too. For casual use I highly recommend this flash. Professionals should consider whether the overheating will be a problem. My solution is to carry a backup. Given that it overheats with just the internal batteries I would hesitate before using the external pack.Read full review
I put to springs under the batteries to complete the circuit. I have springs from tearing down junk over the years. --- Flashes that haven't been used in years take a lot of juice the first time. You can never use lithium batteries. I connected mya Aodelan P12 battery pack. Put in twelve Ni Metal Hydride"s. Full blast recycles in under three seconds. NICE.

This has to be the world's expensive junk flash to fit on Sony cameras. Many people got fooled just because of the name "Sony" and think it has to be good. Sony's top-of-the flash is nowhere as good as ATG Gold Pro II Flash. * Good luck reading & understanding the manual. * Useless and weak hotshoe/stand to mount flashstand * ATG Auto2 is missing * PC Sync Socket is missing * LED light is weak like using a candle * Good luck shooting with softbox * Good luck shooting HSS * Moving that head much will break the flash's shoe and camera's shoe * Overheat very quickly * Shutdown very quickly Advanced to pros rather use ATG and Metz flash over this crap.
An awesome addition to the Sony A6000. You have control of everything to make awesome pictures. When used in automatic mode you need not worry about the camera and flash settings. They work together to get it right. It has the power to cover most situations. This the top of Sony's flash line, so it provides the most features. Expensive, maybe, but the moment you use one of its features that lesser models don't have, you will see that it is worth it!!!
I have two....this one for a second camera I use for weddings...great performer...with consistent high output...recommended.

I am using using this on the Sony A7r. It is far and a way the BEST flash I have ever owned. I switched from the Nikon D800 and SB400 to the Sony and couldn't be happier. The flash does not exhibit any of the "overheating" that has been reported by some. Not sure if this is because this problem has been fixed in newer flashes, or if I am just not pushing it hard enough. I am using it for Ballroom dance photography at long distances but taking only several flashes per minute at most. Based on my experience, I highly recommend it!
I have used this flash unit several times since it arrived and have found it to be the best, overall performer I've ever used. Fitted to the aR7, it's automated features are flawless. The extreme flexibility in aiming the head and adjusting the spread of the light works very well. One feature that I also appreciate is the fast, silent recharge after each shot.
I got this hoping it will become my walk around flash while I accumulate more radio flashes in the future. I am an amateur photographer and I'm not too well educated on the potential for this flash, but I intend to find a diffuser and use it for macro photos and spontaneous portraiture.
