Hundred-Dollar Baby by Robert Parker (2006)
Not one of Parker's best, but a good read nonetheless. The characters of Hawk and Susan are a bit flat in this one. Here Spenser meets April again. Last time he saw her she was a teenage prostitute who was in a lot of trouble. Spenser sent her to a Madam in NYC to take care of her. Nothing much else he could do for her. Now she re-emerges in his life with a new set of problems. Everywhere Spenser goes people are less than truthful with him, including (surprise!), April. Some decent plot twists.
I love a good Spenser story and this IS a good one!
When I read the Spenser series I always picture Robert Urich, Avery Brooks and the rest of the TV cast (Frank, Susan, etc.) as the characters. I love it! I watched all the Spenser shows and really enjoyed them. I actually saw the show before I started reading the books. Because the show was so well cast I find it easy to slip into my imagination the same characteristics the actors and the author intended. Too much fun, and not to be missed!
Excellent Spenser book
If you like Spenser books, you'll like Hundred Dollar Baby. April Kyle features - she has been in 2 previous books. Several characters from previous books also show up. Hawk and Susan both appear in the book. It was hard to put down - an excellent read. Be warned - it has a disturbing ending.
Another Great read by Parker
I've read and continue to read all the Parker books I can get my hands on, I enjoy the clever reparte throughout the stories which carries the story along as well as providing additional enjoyment to the story. Most "detective/PI" novels are devoid of much humor - not so Parker novels. Enjoyable, unique and a real good novel with the "Parker twist" at the end. Miss this book and miss a real good read.
Hundred-dollar Baby, by Robert Parker
Good, easy read. Parker's writing style, with a lot of clever dialog, is easy read and entertaining. I like his Spenser novels.
