  • Great for beginners getting into SDR. Receive almost all Radio transmissions

With the proper software and a decent antenna, you can receive virtually any radio transmission or broadcast with this. There is some initial setup to do, but it is quick and easy. (visit the nooelec website for the guide). It is compatible with virtually all available SDR software with most allowing multiple tuners. As stated, it can receive virtually all transmissions. I own two of these and I've used them to receive police radio, weather radio, AM and FM broadcast, aircraft traffic, wireless microphones and shortwave broadcast. Very reliable and the Aluminum housing gives it a robust feeling and appearance. As far as I am aware, it isn't possible to transmit with this, and apparently the HAM bands will work better with a frequency converter.(it is still possible to receive the HAM bands without the converter) If you are just getting started or are thinking of getting into SDR, this is what you are looking for.

  • Easy to get up and running. Exceeded my Expectations

This is a remarkable little device for the money. I downloaded the Cubic SDR software as recommended by the seller, plus also HDSDR and SDR#. The device works well with all three software packages. It also interfaces well with DSD to enable digital decoding using a Virtual Cable to connect the two. Tuning is surprisingly accurate and sensitive. Adjustable gain and adjustable modulation using CubicSDR. Results will vary greatly though depending upon your antenna selection. I highly recommend a good antenna (or several for various frequency interests) in order to get the most out of this device. A good working knowledge of radio frequency (RF) and general radio wave transmission and terminology is a definite plus.

  • This SDR is whatcha want

Oh man, I couldn't be happier with my NooElec SDR. This thing is great--supported by a good handful of software programs out there, clean-running, professionally packaged, and certainly good-looking. It's worth noting that the device gives off a fair amount of heat. I don't know how to tell if it's too hot or just working properly, but it seems fine when I ran it for a few hours. I like how it has an SMA female antenna attachment, because it enables me to use the same SMA male antenna from my handheld. I am impressed with the thing, for sure. Almost alarmed at the quality for ~40 bucks. Hats off to NooElec for bringing a great product to market!

  • Great "cheap" SDR

For the money this is one of the best if not the best SDR's I've tried. It works, it never gives USB issues like other units I've tried has. It's a pretty decent receiver and fairly accurate. It's fairly stable. It works well with many of the SDR programs. So far I've had no issues. It also works well with my up converters. Great bang for the buck!

  • Great reciever

This receiver with the SDR# software and a decent antenna makes a remarkable receiver.. I use it with the ham upconverter from the same company and shortwave reception is excellent. I think this is an excellent value. I really enjoy aircraft tracking using asdb software. Support is also excellent from nooelect.

  • SDR to use for training and hobbyists.

Nice SDR. Works well with software on a MAC PowerBook. The unit does get a little warm though it doesn't seem to bother the operation. Better performance tan those cheap $10 plastic units.

  • Nice and very accurate

I think this device is really nice and packs a lot of features for the lowest price that it has. I've bought two of those and no problems at all. Completely recommended.

  • Just call it the NESDR Smart!

The Nooelec RTLSDR v5 Smart has a more sensitive receiver, more stations are available and the waterfall is excellent. It is easier to learn than it was thought, did not need to research on the Internet to work with it. NICE!

  • Good construction and good value

The metal enclosure works well as both a shield and a heat sink. It performs quite nicely and is inexpensive. The SMA connector is a nice feature. I would buy it again.
