The second best novelization I've ever read
Only "Trials and Tribbleations" has put me into the story in a better style. Second best in a bunch of books that tend to be overblown and often lose me in yards of useless exposition. Terry Brooks does a wonderful job describing the characters and their situations. He creeps into the heads of the characters and helps bring them to life further in the way only an author can. Qui-Gon Jinn is especially vibrant. There are some inconsistancies. The end battles and swordfighting in the book is somewhat different, I think, from the movie's version; it includes many lines of dialogue cut from the movie (not that I'm complaining); Jar Jar seems more competent; and Brooks seems to be very vague on Queen Amidala's clothing. None of these significantly detract from enjoyment of this novel. Read it if you've seen the movie! You will not be disappointed.
My friend just recently began reading Star Wars novels, primarily novels of the prequels. I decided to find a gift suitable for him, so I began to look online for ideas. I wanted to find a Star Wars book that would be unique, and autographed if possible. Terry Brooks is a well known author and when I found the first book of the Star Wars prequels saga, it was a perfect gift. My friend received the book autographed, very neatly packaged, and with a picture of Terry Brooks signing it. He was thrilled when receiving it for Christmas. As an avid fan of Star Wars myself, I may read this in the future as well. Sincerely, Ray
Normally when you read a book, it brings insight and a point of view normally missed or not covered by the movie. This book was published after the movie and it's literally word for word out of the movie. It's like reading a book version of the movie script! Good: 1) Exactly like the movie Bad: 1) Exactly like the movie 2) No insight not presented in the movie 3) Disappointment compared to Terry Brook's other books. If you want this to complete your Star Wars collection, it's definitely a must have. Just don't expect this book to be any different than the movie. Definitely NOT Terry Brook's best work. I recommend his other series like Shannara series (my favorite!)
star wars episode 1
it was good. written by a lawyer so you know he nailed the political side of it really well. great writer. what i like about the books is the extras that they don't have in the movies. this book has some good extra qui-gon stuff that's pretty good. all in all i have to say that if you are a real star wars fan you are doing yourself wrong by not reading all the books. return of the jedi is pretty good.g
Better than the movie!
It’s a great book and is as advertised!
