Product Information

Equivalent to a 28-135mm lens, the new EF-S 17-85mm standard zoom lens from Canon brings true wide-angle to telephoto coverage to EOS 60D, EOS 7D and Digital Rebel cameras. It has Canon's Image Stabilization system, which allows safe hand-holding at speeds up to three stops slower than standard lenses. The lens is optically optimized for digital SLRs with a ring-type ultra-sonic monitor (USM) for fast, silent auto focus as well as full-time manual focus when in the AF mode. It has an aperture range of f/4.0-5.6 for a sharp image from edge to edge with a minimum of vignetting at the corners when wide open. The EF-S 17-85mm replaces the popular EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM, the world's first interchangeable lens with Image Stabilizer (IS), and is perfect for serious amateur and professional nature and sports photographers needing reliable results when shooting on the move.

    High Distortion but “Sharp”

    The EF-S 17-85 4-5.6 IS USM devalued its price greatly due to the fact that it has high reputation of providing distortion at every focal lengths vastly from -4.5 to +3.5!!!! Otherwise, it is a good lens, sharpness, build, IS, USM, size and its look, are perfect. Get one. It is cheap these days. You ll get nice pictures from it for sure. If you r not a pro or serious architecture photographer, so worth using.

    Excellent Zoom Range 17 to 85 MM

    This particular lens is great to do Candid Photography. The range is Perfect.. The lens has a Terrible Downside,,, it is Not Durable at all.. Do, Expect,, for it to break,, and that you will purchase another because it has such a great range. This is my Favorite lens to use,, but it's Construction is,, Junk.. I have purchased SIX of them,,, I would have been better off Purchasing a Professional lens.

    Durable sharp zoom w quick AF

    17 to 85 is a great standard range. This lens has been around awhile, has a solid weight to it, is quite sharp with a respectable manual pull and has a super fast and accurate autofocus. I was surprised that the AF is a tiny bit noisier than I expected, but only an issue if you're using the in-camera mic for video, which you shouldn't be doing anyway. Variable aperture, but oh well, that's life under 200 dollars for a zoom this well built and with this range. The image stabilizer is very effective and helpful on handheld shots. Great lens and worth the price, especially if you can grab a good used one.
