The first Blind Guardian track I ever heard was 'Turn The Page' from this album. I immediately went out and bought 'Somewhere Far Beyond', then 'Tokyo Tales', then 'Nightfall In Middle Earth'. 'A Twist In The Myth' takes that distinctive Epic/Folk Metal, sound with its bardish singing, mingled with good old-fashioned metal falsetto, and wonderful soaring, chorussed guitars, and makes it heavier. Whereas earlier albums could have been put on a level with classic rock groups such as Queen and Whitesnake for 'heaviness', 'A Twist In The Myth' is right up there with some of the lighter Metallica and Megadeth albums. The harmonies and song structures have progressed as well. This is not simply another fantasy-based album churned out in the same vein as bands like Manowar seem to have managed, but a development in style which is the sign of a healthy group. Their latest promises to take this even further with its 15 minute epic title track.Read full review
