This had the potential to be such a great platformer, and yet it is plagued by many major problems that get in its way. Many times, you have to whip out your pistol and shoot long range... unfortunately the motion controls and wii pointer are required so you can never really hit what your shooting at. If they had lock-on targeting it would have been completely different though! The hack/slash style is extremely reminscent of older games like Maximo for PS 2.. done well, but again the level designs can be quite confusing because everything in a level looks the same.. so your backtracking all the time just to find the right path out. Finally, the camera angle is almost unbearable, you can use the C button on Nunchuck to auto behind Death Jr, but it keeps getting skewed and offcenter and you never really see around you or what your doing... very frustrating!Read full review

I picked up this game, "Death Jr: Root of Evil" specifically to play it with my sister, a casual gamer in her early 20s. It is a two player co-op action-adventure. The main character is the Grim Reaper's Son, and his side-kick is a teenage Pandora. The game feels like a "light hearted" Tim Burton short story played out in a level-driven over-the-shoulder shooter, with some "Legend of Zelda"-esq melee thrown in. The musical score is quirky and enhances the mischievous mood of the characters. The graphics and artwork have the feel of a cartoon. We like the game so far, except that we got a quarter of the way through in a single evening. So, we are trying to control our playing to better savor the game. The controls are simple to learn. Basic maneuvers are done with buttons. More advanced melee techniques are accomplished via unidirectional controller motions. When shooting, the controller aims while the nunchuck thumbstick strafes the character. This game would appeal to nonchalant players looking for something substantive to play with a buddy. When played nonstop, it could be beaten in a single weekend. As such, it would be nice for a family get-together, assuming there are no small children around; some of the cut scenes do contain some PG-13 swear words. While cute and fun, this game is far from groundbreaking. For the gamers who have played it all, chances are you've already played a game that plays like this. The story, characters, and music are what makes this experience unique.Read full review
This game is fun. My kids like it as well and are able to play it on different difficultly levels. I wish you were able to explore a little more and that the game were a little longer. Definitely worth getting if you or your child is not so much of a gamer. Someone who is a gamer would probably expect a little more from it and with length. When I had played I didn't want to put the controller down. Don't get me wrong it can be challenging and it does get harder throughout. I personally loved the game and it is something I would definitely recommend.
