Perfect tool for digging holes
I was looking for a power tool to use for digging holes to plant a tall, fairly steep (~2:1) and slippery slope that is mostly decomposed granite (DG). Due to the very poor foot hold and high risk of slipping, I wanted a tool that wasn't so heavy it could throw me off balance when recovering from a foot slide. After feeling the heft of many of the demolition hammers and comparing specs, the Makita HM0870C was the only one that could easily be carried with one hand while still touting impressive impact energy numbers. I've now used the HM0870C to dig about 45 holes using a 1-inch wide by 12-inch long flat chisel bit and am very impressed with the tool performance. It's impact energy is more than adequate for chiseling through DG and the tool is light enough to make maneuvering around the hole easy. Being very sensitive to noise, I was also pleasantly surprised by how quiet the tool is and put my ear protection back on the shelf.
