Synopsis
Excerpt from The Works of James Gillray, the Caricaturist: With the History of His Life and TimesThe martial spirit of Frederick the Great was shaping the foundations of an Empire whose growth had distanced the boldest calculations of his neighbours. The subsidies paid by England in support of these campaigns materially increased our burdens, whilst Frederick prudently avoided saddling his youthful kingdom with the incubus of a national debt.In 1757, the fate of the Protestant Hero, and the stability of his empire, appeared to tremble on the verge of destruction; the ruins of his ambition threatened to crumble on every side before the force of overwhelming combinations. The Courts of Versailles, Vienna, and St. Petersburg, then ourishing in the fulness of their reputation, were uniting to crush the dangerous rival growing up in their midst. Our sovereign, the Second George - brave, decisive, and clear-sighted by nature - choleric, boorish, and, above all, devotedly German - tranquilly holding the title and power of King of Great Britain - directed his aspirations, and poured out the resources of the kingdom he had acquired, to maintain his dignity as Elector of Hanover, and to support his German relations.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. - s***s (17)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseSeller was fine, arrived promptly with good packaging and in perfect condition. But I should have asked questions about the book. It is really just a recreation of a collection of pages from old catalogues. I was hoping for more information & history of some of the Chickering models. This was not worth $18 to me. Would have been helpful if the seller had given examples of some pages.

Thank you for the great communication and customer service. It looked exactly like the description and I'm pleased with the value of it. Most of all, thanks for making it right when it was wrong. The Writings and Speeches of Grover Cleveland (Classic Reprint) (#135167120478)
