Bien que la litterature chretienne d'afrique apparaisse des la fin du n soecle, bien que Tertul lien et Minucius Felix soient presque contempo rains_d'apulee, Cyprien de Nemesien, et Augustin de Capella, il nous a paru necessaire de mener jus qu'au bout l'etude des auteurs paiens avant de commencer celle des chretiens. C'est que, malgre les analogies de style et les inuences reciproques, il est impossible de confondre ces deux classes d'e crivains. Ils forment deux series paralleles, irre ductibles, tournees l'une vers le passe, l'autre vers le present et vers l'avenir; et chacune d'elles a ses traditions propres. Quoique les chretiens doivent beaucoup a l'ecole, ils se separent absolument des rheteurs pa1ens leurs maitres par l'usage qu'ils font de leur talent ils ont une idee fixe, agir, defendre leur foi, gagner des ames; ils dedaignent tout le reste et c'estjustement par ce mepris de la gloire litteraire qu'ils ont renouvele la litterature africaine. Que tel ouvrage chretien du III siecle soit contem porain de tel autre ouvrage pa1en, c'est une conside ration secondaire l'important est de bien etablir de part et d'autre la filiation des oeuvres. It is really just a recreation of a collection of pages from old catalogues. I was hoping for more information & history of some of the Chickering models. This was not worth $18 to me. Would have been helpful if the seller had given examples of some pages.
