When Ma, Mary, Laura, Carrie, and baby Grace join him, they become the first settlers in the town of De Smet. Pa starts work on the first building of the brand new town, located on the shores of Silver Lake. The Long Winter The first terrible storm comes to the barren prairie in October. Then it snows almost without stopping until April. With snow piled as high as the rooftops, it's impossible for trains to deliver supplies, and the townspeople, including Laura and her family, are starving. Young Almanzo Wilder, who has settled in the town, risks his life to save the town. Little Town on the Prairie De Smet is rejuvenated with the beginning of spring. But in addition to the parties, socials, and "literaries," work must continue. Laura spends many hours sewing shirts to help Ma and Pa get enough money to send Mary to a college for the blind. But in the evenings, Laura makes time for a new caller, Almanzo Wilder.     Addictive reading

    These books are classics for a reason. They are part of our American heritage. They are full of history and a great read for children or adults. I enjoyed all of them but my favorite book in this series is the Long Winter. It makes me very thankful we are warm and have plenty to eat in the winter. Pioneers had it rough and we should be thankful they went ahead of us and settled our beautiful country. Laura Ingalls Wilder had a way with words and descriptions. I will warn you these books are quite addictive and I found them to be quite charming. I only read one of them as a child, I checked it out from my very small public school library. I hated reading at the time but I loved the book Little House on the Prairie. I had no idea it was a series. I discovered it later in life when a friend ...

    Books in Good Condition

    These books are in excellent condition considering their age. They look new and have been taken care of. Even more important is the fact that the books make a great gift to give to someone and the reading is of interest. I also like the fact that the print is fairly large so if someone has trouble with small print these books have large enough print that the reader or readers can enjoy without having to strain the eyes. Also, the books are wholesome and take the reader back to a time when the world was simple even though times were often hard. I recommend these books to anyone who has an interest in history or who loves reading about an era gone by.

    Pioneer History in these books - love!

    Good condition for a 1971 printing. Pages came off the binder so I had to use super glue to reattach some pages in a few of the books. To be expected for that printing. Also, 2 books were missing a page each. I enjoyed the Little House Books as a child and now I can keep these as momentos from my childhood.

    Simply Great Adventure

    My Kids Love this set. There is so much adventure. It's really good at helping them develop a sense of imagination and they can put themselves in the story. I am reading this to my 1, 3 and 4 year olds. But I believe this is a readable level for 7-9 year olds.
