It works as a remote, but immediately upon pairing with the television I get prompted to update the software. No matter how many times I try, reboots, etc. The update consistently fails. Bought an actual Sony branded remote and it was able to both pair and complete the software update without issues. If the ability to install updates is not important, this is a good choice.
