J. Press3 items starting from US $34.95
A bastion of permanence in a culture dedicated to change for its own sake, J. Press continues to offer citizens of New York, Washington DC, Cambridge, and New Haven the same traditional 3-button sack suits, repp striped ties, and flat-front trousers that their fathers and grandfathers wore. Founded by Jacobi Press on the campus of Yale University in 1902, J. Press caters, according to Lisa Birnbach, "to the ultraconservatives of the Old Guard who feel that Brooks Brothers is too trendy and women's departments are an abomination." I disagree slightly - I find their ties to be brighter and more interesting than Brooks Brothers' ties. J. Press's New York location was originally on 44th Street between 5th and Madison Avenues because it was equidistant from The Harvard Club and The Yale Club.
