Playing With Fire
My kid recently learned that you could start a fire with a magnifying glass. Within a couple days, he had built a miniature pizza oven contraption with a bunch of bricks I have piled out back. I call it a pizza oven so I don’t have to refer to it by what it really is: a confined space to burn random things from the house made of paper or wood. How can I blame him? I’ve been a fan of fire related activities all my life. My experience didn’t start off nearly as controlled, however. It involved dousing a box with lighter fluid and lighting it on fire underneath the railroad tunnel near my house. Know what I learned? You actually can jump through a flaming box when your exit is blocked without catching on fire Luckily, these days I mostly direct these energies toward culinary pursuits. This is a collection of things that harness the power of fire or heat to do magical things, no cardboard required.
