About VW Type 2
The VW Type 2 was introduced by Volkswagen in 1950 as its second model after the popular VW Beetle, also called the Type 1. People also call the Type 2 the Transporter, the Kombi, or the Microbus. It was very popular in the 1960s during the Hippie movement, and vans and buses often had bright colors. Many of these older models are highly collectible. The Type 2 was one of the forerunners of modern cargo and passenger vans, and Volkswagen produced it until 1979. It has a unique design with a split front windshield, big round headlights, and an air-cooled rear engine. You can choose between a WV Type 2 bus and a camper or RV versions. The VW campers were converted by separate companies. One of the most popular is the Westfalia or Westie. It has a pop top so that people can walk around in the vehicle without bumping their heads while parked.
