About Taxco Rings

In a country known for its silver, Mexican jewelry enthusiasts prize items crafted in Taxco de Alarcon, located in the state of Guerrero. In addition to silver necklaces and bracelets, a Taxco ring is a thoughtful gift or a great addition to any jewelry wardrobe. One of the first mining sites in the Americas, Taxco was reinvigorated in 1931 when Tulane University professor William Spratling traveled to Mexico. Ambassador Dwight Morrow told Spratling that Taxco's mines had not nurtured a silversmithing industry. Spratling initiated an apprentice system and brought in master craftsmen to transform the budding silversmiths into artisans. Shoppers can browse the extensive listings on eBay for a vintage Taxco sterling ring, including dome, wraparound, or filigree rings. Other older Taxco ring examples feature stones such as tiger's eye, amethyst, or aquamarine; these rings often show a gentle patina acquired over the years. For the gentleman in your life, or for your own collection, look for a Taxco men's ring in a simple silver band, with malachite, onyx, or turquoise. Many Taxco artisans stamp their unique mark inside each ring, allowing you to identify its origin.
