About Scrabble Tiles

You do not have to be a word-lover — aka lexophile — to experience the thrill of using a Z on a triple-letter space. Any competitive person can get a buzz out of using Scrabble tiles to outscore an opponent. Every household should have a set of tiles for playing this classic game, and try some variations if the slow movement of the game bores you. For example, take your cue from Internet variations of the game and play over the course of a few days. On your way out the door in the morning, leave a word on the board. At the end of the day, come back to find that it is your turn again. Use magnetic tiles so that the game is not ruined if it is accidentally knocked over. Alternatively, use vintage Scrabble tiles to play Bananagrams, a variation of Scrabble that moves very quickly and does not require a board. Give each player eight to 21 tiles, set a timer, and have each player build a puzzle of his own. On eBay, you can find a huge inventory of Scrabble tiles, so there is no reason to delay building your vocabulary and instituting a lively spirit of rivalry in your house.
