Road Champs die-cast metal cars, trucks, commercial vehicles, semis, and sports cars are among the most collectible die-cast vehicles around. Road Champs makes models in 1:64 and 1:43 scale. The earliest models, made in 1982, are in 1:64, are all metal, and feature remarkable detail. They include a Ferrari Testarossa with doors that open and full engine detail. The first models, produced until 1987, were sometimes packaged in individual boxes as well as blister packs, and were also sold in themed five-packs. In 1987, Road Champs migrated to plastic bases. The last of the all-metal cars made in ?87 include the Nissan 300ZX, Jaguar XJ-S, and Porsche 944 racing cars with minutely detailed racing regalia and painted bumpers. In 2000, after a decade of producing less detailed one-piece models, RC came out with the Car and Driver Shock Racers featuring adjustable shocks. Another fun Road Champs theme to collect is the many custom police cars you can find on eBay which were custom made for individual police departments as promotions. Collecting die-cast cars is a terrific hobby and Road Champs is an excellent place to start.
