About Necks

Just like your neck is important for holding your head on your shoulders, anyone who plays the guitar knows the importance of a good guitar neck, from the frets to the headstock. One of the most important qualities is rigidity, particularly when under strain. It may not be obvious to some, but the tension of the strings imparts a major strain on the neck, pulling it back toward the body of the instrument. You'll find these components differ in both design and construction. A classical guitar has exactly 19 frets, while an electric guitar neck has 20 or more. Many guitars use a maple neck, but other options include ash, alder, or even mahogany. You can't play well without a good neck on your guitar, but luckily you can replace it if you need to. A quick trip online to eBay is a great way to find exactly the right part for your needs. It's nice to know there's one thing you can grab by the neck.
