About Melamine

Melamine tableware first became popular in the 1950s and has resurged at the turn of the century. Able to be formed into just about any shape, and very resistant to breaking, though not immune to stains and scratches, melamine dinnerware is popular especially in situations where breakage might otherwise be a concern. In fact, it was used on ships by the navy in the Second World War for this very reason. Its light weight is also a bonus over glass or ceramics. Vintage melamine products are widely available, largely due to the durability of the material and the vast amounts produced, and come in all sorts of shapes and colors. Whatever shatterproof memories from your childhood you are looking to relive, you are sure to find just the right item from one of the reliable sellers on eBay. If stains are a problem, consider a plastic polish or light bleaching. Due to concerns about the safety of plastics and food, consider keeping yours out of the microwave, and they last longer if hand washed. Just because you probably could drive your car over them, does not mean you should.
