About LS Engines
The Pontiac Firebird, GTO, and Chevrolet Corvette all made use of the same powerhouse — the LS engine. This V8 small block manages a maximum of over 400 horsepower. Some LS models contain cast aluminum blocks, such as the LS1 engine, while others are cast iron. The LS engine series features a design to simplify the matching process and the assembly of internal mechanical parts of the motor. The different LS engine variations are built using older models as a base. Variants include using previous cylinder heads, crankshafts, and bottom-ends together with newer technology to create different variations of the series. The LS3 engine is featured in the sixth-generation Chevrolet Corvette. The block is considered to be revised from the previous LS2 engine, and it features high-flowing intake manifolds, aggressive camshafts, and a 10.7:1 compression ratio. The engine is supplemented with a 6-speed transmission, which allows for a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. The engine has a larger 103 mm bore and better high-flowing engine heads. There is a large inventory of LS engines and components available on eBay.
