About Kiyoshi Saito

Japanese art has the power to transport the viewer to another world, one filled with lush hills, powerful seas, and a wholly different rhythm of life. Kiyoshi Saito's work is a prime example of this proud tradition. The artist belonged to the sosaku hanga genre, and produced prints and woodcuts. His works show quiet villages, and many of his later projects merged traditional Japanese and contemporary art world sensibilities in a creative fusion. Many of his prints depict two-dimensional buildings, although plenty also show dimensionality. You can find plenty of Kiyoshi Saito works in the vast inventory on eBay, spanning the full range of his career. His works often combine shapes in new and unexpected ways, revealing the complexity of his creative genius while retaining a sense of accessibility rarely offered by modern painters. Intricate woodblocks and mesmerizing prints make up the majority of this artist's catalog. However, there are also some portraits to be found among his works, although they are not typically executed in traditional fashion. Perhaps that is to be expected, as Kiyoshi Saito's work never fears the new.
