About Islam Kufis
The faithful performing the five daily prayers wear a Muslim prayer cap, known as a taqiyah or Islam kufi. Some of the devout also wear the round brimless cap throughout the day to emulate the Prophet Muhammad, who kept his head covered. The traditional Islam kufi is white and worn under a headscarf or turban in Arab countries. The custom of wearing a kufi has spread throughout Africa and Asia and among men of African descent in the Americas. Kufis are not limited to those who follow Islam, however; West African Jewish and Christian men, as well as some Christian women, also wear kufis. These African kufis may be any color, and made of kente cloth or knitted or crocheted from brightly colored yarns. The knitted or crocheted styles are generally for informal daily wear, while a crown style is for formal occasions including graduations, weddings, and funerals. The elders of the community also wear kufis as a symbol of wisdom. When searching for your kufi, the vast inventory on eBay contains a wide selection of styles, patterns, and colors, allowing you to select a kufi to match a specific outfit or formal dashiki suit.
