About Ignition Switches
You turn the key in the ignition, and — nothing. Before you despair, the problem may just be a faulty ignition switch. When you turn the key to the second position, all of the lights on the dashboard should illuminate. In the third position, the engine should turn over. If the car ignition switch is bad, then the vehicle cannot activate its main electrical components. Switches come in many shapes and sizes, depending on the type of motor they work with, and they can be found in boats, tractors, motorcycles, and industrial equipment. Many vehicles require specialized switches designed to carry the proper amount of electricity to peripheral components, but universal ignition switches work for a variety of vehicles. Traditionally, ignition switches require a key, but newer versions use a push-button mechanism that detects the proximity of the vehicle's fob key.
