About IDE to SATA Converter
Just in case you do not know it yet, you can use your old IDE hard drive that is sitting in the bottom drawer of your work desk with a PC that has a SATA setup. If you do know about the IDE to SATA converter device but are having second thoughts using one, then you should give it a whirl. This device is quite simple to use. It is essentially an adapter that attaches to your old hard drive's 40-pin or 80-pin socket and gives it a SATA connection. An IDE to SATA hard drive converter also works for optical drives with IDE sockets. Despite the large variety of IDE to SATA converter offerings on eBay, their basic configurations are the same. IDE to SATA laptop converter devices are understandably smaller for laptop hard drives. Before you purchase your IDE to SATA converter, it will be a good idea to examine your old hard drive or optical drive if you have a 40-pin or an 80-pin socket. You must also keep in mind that the adapters will not make your old hard drive perform like a SATA hard drive. However, the adapter will allow you to use your old hard drive in case you want to search and retrieve your old files, or use the drive as a secondary backup and storage space.
