About Holt Howard

Dainty, cocked heads, sometimes in tandem like inseparable twins, but with white beards, a jolly smile, and candy-cane colored suits. They are the Holt Howard Santas, the ornaments your mom squeezed between the multitudes of other decorations on the Yuletide-bedizened fireplace mantel or windowsill. The darlings of Christmas are the result of a time when college educations were as attainable as a motor scooter or a teenager?s first car, when young people wanted to be a little bit different from the traditions that their parents emanated. This was when cultural exchanges for the young were more available than for their parents. So it was this setting that the Howard brothers, John and Bob, collaborated with a college mate, Grant Holt, who had just returned home from post-graduate work in Sweden where he saw potential in a couple of Scandinavian Christmas decorations. Their joint genius has resulted in not only a ceramic, mid-century-born expression of a season celebrated across the oceans, but quite a market for collectors with the much-coveted Howard Holt Pixieware, featuring a whimsical Cozy Kitten available in good and excellent condition via reliable eBay sellers. The condiment jars, jelly jars, sugar and cream containers, and salt and pepper shakers are all striped and splashed with the traditional Holt Howard colors of lime green, mustard yellow, pumpkin orange, and candy-cane red that copycats just don?t replicate, giving Holt Howard collectors great pride.
