About Gibson ES 175

Fans of archtop-style guitars often turn to Gibson as their guitar of choice, and one guitar that many guitarists turn to is the Gibson ES-175. This guitar has been part of the Gibson guitar lineup since 1949. It is a single cutaway hollow-body guitar that is a favorite of many jazz and rock guitarists. Guitarists who favor the ES-175 include Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Blue Oyster Cult's Buck Dharma, Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler, and solo artist Pat Matheny. It is 24 3/4 inches long and features a Tune-O-Matic bridge and trapeze tailpiece. The neck is almost always mahogany with a rosewood fretboard while the body can be anything from maple, poplar, mahogany, and maple laminate. The majority of Gibson ES-175 guitars feature two humbucking pickups, although older models have two single-coil pickups or even just a single-coil pickup. There are a number of custom shop model ES-175 guitars available that have a wide variety of finishes, but the standard finishes available are Wine Red, Vintage Sunburst, and Antique Natural. Although guitars from the last few years make up much of the vast inventory on eBay, there are a number of vintage Gibson ES-175 guitars available, too. These guitars are often in great shape and play just as well as a new guitar, making them sound investments as well as investments in sound.
