Although already a staple in many musical genres, Kurt Cobain simply reinforced the appeal of this eclectic sounding icon. The Fender Jaguar, popular with surf musicians such as The Beach Boys during the release years of the 1960s, went on to become a staple choice for punk, grunge, and new wave artists, gaining huge popularity in the 1990s thanks to Nirvana and other more left field bands such as Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. The guitar shares many features with the earlier Jazzmaster, in particular the dual circuit switch that allows selection of cleaner lead tones, or a more meaty rhythm sound. The original 1965 Fender Jaguar is still very much in demand, and thanks to the vast inventory on eBay, you can often find this classic, along with other vintage Fender Jaguars, just waiting to be strummed. Some notable features that make this guitar unique from the Jazzmaster however, are things like the extra RF shielding and slightly shorter 22 fret neck. The shielding means much less interference, and so is a good choice if you do not want huge amounts of feedback.
