Every year, the Chinese Lantern Festival closes out Chinese New Year festivities. Held on the first full moon of the first lunar month, the Lantern Festival is a celebration of the beginning of springtime. The tradition is thought to date back more than 2,000 years to sometime in the Han Dynasty, when it was a tribute to Buddha. Nowadays people light Chinese lanterns (both the stationary and floating varieties), eat yuanxiao (sweet dumplings), and try to solve riddles posted on the lanterns (if you guess the right answer, the lantern’s owner must give you a present). Decorating with Chinese lanterns is a great way to bring the light and joy of the Chinese Lantern Festival into your home. Start by checking out the vast selection of Chinese Lanterns listed on eBay.
