About 200 Amp Alternator
As you drive down the road, you notice your lights flickering, and that is followed by your radio cutting in and out, and your dashboard and engine start losing power. All of a sudden, everything cuts out as your 200-amp alternator dies, and you are left cruising off to the side of the road before you cause an accident. It is now time to purchase a new alternator. You can purchase aftermarket alternators, including Ford and Chevy, cheaper than buying them new. Depending on the set up of your vehicle, you may even be able to change the alternator out yourself. Ford alternators are usually housed behind the timing belt, so you have to take it off, at least partially, to get to it. That means you will need to be familiar with how to put it back on. The Chevy alternator is not always behind the timing belt, but several models have an air intake and an alternator shield over the alternator. You have to remove those to change out the alternator. To find an aftermarket 200-amp alternator for your car, look through the vast inventory available on eBay. Even if you think the alternator can make it just a little longer, it is better to be safe than sorry.
