About 1964 Proof Sets

The collector browses through his precious treasures, stopping at his 1964 proof set of coins and carefully takes out the half dollar to examine it under a microscope. Every year the U.S. Mint releases proof sets of its circulation coins to collectors, who prefer to buy them this way because they get all the pieces at once without having to hunt for them. The 1964 U.S. proof set contains a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and half-dollar. It is the half dollar that gets all the fame because if a collector is lucky enough to have a rare version, called the "Accented Hair" half dollar, it is worth a small fortune. eBay lists these 1964 proof sets from private sellers all around the world. Sometimes these collections appear as 1964 silver proof sets since coins like half dollar, quarter, and dime all contain 90 percent silver. They are excellent investment coins for an avid collector.
