In 1957, the National Basketball Association turned 12 years old, coming out of childhood and into its adolescence as a major sport. The 1957 Topps series of basketball cards was the company?s first entry into the sport. There were 80 1957 Topps Basketball cards in total, printed on 3 1/2 by 2 1/2-inch cards featuring a color photo of the player and the team name on the front and a paragraph of personal details and a statistics grid on the back. The set featured the rookie cards of future stars like Bill Russell and Maurice Stokes, as well more established stars like Bill Sharman and Bob Cousy. 1957 Topps basketball cards are difficult to find because, like competitor Bowman?s found in 1949, the sport lacked sufficient popularity to sustain more than a year of printing at the time. Collectors can turn to reliable sellers on eBay for a wide variety of 1957 Topps PSA 7 level cards.
