Toyota Camry Tail Lights

When it's time to replace the tail lights on your Toyota Camry, there are a number of factors that are important to consider. These include both the type of light you need and whether it is OEM certified.

What kinds of Toyota Camry tail lights are there?

There are several different types of bulbs that can be used as Toyota Camry tail lights. The three most common tail light designs use one of the following; halogen, Xenon, or LED. Each of these types of tail lights has its own set of special characteristics and work using different technology. Understanding these details of each one is critical to being able to make an informed decision about what type you want for your Camry.

  • Halogen: These use a similar concept to common household incandescent lights. Each one has a filament inside of a glass tube that contains a gas. These bulbs use a tungsten filament with gas surrounding the filament. When the taillight is on, the filament starts to heat up. When this happens, some of the atoms of tungsten in the filament are vaporized. When the filament and gas starts to cool down, the vaporized tungsten is deposited back onto the filament. This helps to extend its lifespan.
  • Xenon: There are two different designs that use xenon. One is a standard filament design and the other is a special design called HID or High-Intensity Discharge. The filament design works like most filament-based tail lights, but HID tail lights work much differently. Rather than using a filament, HIDs work by creating an arc of electricity between the two electrodes in the main body of the bulb. Xenon bulbs are known for having a clean, white light that is exceptionally bright, making it possible to have great range of vision in darker conditions.
  • LED: These are used in numerous applications, including automotive. When used as tail lights, LEDs have the advantage of being very small, so manufacturers have the liberty to make creative designs with them. LEDs are highly energy efficient and have a long lifespan.

What is an OEM tail light assembly?

The tail light assembly is the housing for the collection of lights that are on the back end of your Toyota vehicle. These usually include the parking light, the brake light, and the turn signals. If this part needs to be replaced, it is important to make sure that the new part is OEM certified to be compatible with your Camry. The OEM is the Original Equipment Manufacturer, the company that manufactured the original stock parts for your vehicle.
