The Rolex Submariner Ref 124060: Classic Design With an Innovative Movement
The Rolex Submariner line was first produced in 1953, and one of the newest iterations, the Ref 124060, combines classic design language with fresh innovations. The steel dive watch is rugged, offering water resistance to depths of 300 meters. But this time, that diving durability comes with a larger case and brand-new movement.
A New Case for a New Rolex Submariner Watch
This steel dive watch has a 41-millimeter case. It's the first 41-millimeter Submariner, offering a slightly larger profile than the 30- and 40-millimeter timepieces of the past. The change is subtle but makes room for unique changes that harken back to vintage design.
Like its predecessors, Ref 124060 has the Rolex Maxi case. It has larger lugs, a bulkier profile, and several squared details. However, the new case diameter paved the way for refinements like slimmer lugs. The result is a shape and look that resembles vintage references.
Another unique addition is a wide Oyster bracelet. It has the signature three-link design, but the new proportions accommodate the case.
Beyond the new size and profile, this Rolex Submariner watch has the classic dial. You're getting the mix of luminous circles, rectangles, and triangles, along with the Mercedes-style hour hand and Cerachrom bezel. There's also the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
The Ref 124060 Movement
Under the hood is a new movement. Ref 124060 introduces Rolex's Caliber 3230. It has a substantially longer power reserve of 70 hours. There's also a new Chronergy escapement that improves long-term reliability.
Another unique feature of the movement is a blue Parachrom hairspring. Rolex made this component from a paramagnetic alloy to protect the watch from magnetic field interference.
