Olympus Tough Digital Cameras

Olympus Tough is a series of digital cameras manufactured by Olympus. Tough cameras are adventure cameras and can be used underwater and in dusty environments. The Tough series includes the Tough-6000, the Tough-8000, the TG-850, the TG-860, the TG-3, the TG-5, and the TG-Tracker.

Where can the Olympus Tough cameras be used?

The Olympus Tough cameras are made for action and are suitable for snorkeling, swimming, and water sports. They are also compatible with the Olympus underwater housing and waterproof lenses. The camera is designed to operate in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit or -10 degrees Celsius. The Olympus Tough digital cameras also come equipped with anti-fog lens.

What image sensor and autofocus system do the cameras have?

Olympus Tough cameras come equipped with an image sensor that can capture high-resolution photographs and video. You can use these cameras in low light, too. The most advanced cameras in the series can capture up to Ultra HD 4K-resolution video at 30 frames per second or 1080-pixel video at 120 frames per second. Ultra HD is equivalent to a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels, making it four times as detailed as 1080-pixel resolution. The Tough cameras also have a fast and precise single autofocus, autofocus tracking, and manual focus modes with face detection technology. The bright f/2.0 high-speed lens features optical zoom and image stabilization as well as a wide-angle view function. The cameras feature programmable buttons that enable you to store your most commonly used functions and preferred shooting settings.

Does the Tough series have special features for underwater photography?

Yes, it does. Underwater Snapshot, Macro, and HDR modes all use composite technology to improve the lighting and shadows in underwater scenes. The HDR mode will create images that have a greater transition between light and dark colors.

Do Tough cameras have any connectivity or sharing options?

Yes, the Tough cameras use a QR code that is displayed on the LCD monitor to sync up with your smart devices through wireless Wi-Fi connectivity. This lets you change camera settings, compose your image, take pictures remotely, and share them instantly all from your smartphone or tablet. You can use the Olympus Image Track app on your smart device to transfer GPS logs and shooting data. The cameras also have a GPS feature that can identify your location in less than 10 seconds, and the electronic compass can track barometric pressure, altitude, and water depth.
