The batting is certainly old, clumpy cotton, also common in farms. The backing is rough creamy cotton, but we are not sure it is feed sack cotton, just rough farm fabric as well as the rest of the quilt.

Antique "Ocean Waves" quilt in dark indigo blue and white. The print has tiny white stars on blue. There are borders on two opposing sides. Handmade circa 1880. A wonderful pattern with tiny piecework.
Very GRAPHIC OCEAN WAVES QUILT. Freshly HAND LAUNDERED! The size is 80" by 68" and the condition is good. The quilt was made in the 1920's or 30's. The only thing I noticed was a snag or two in the piecing (see photo).

"OCEAN WAVES" Quilt. This "Ocean Waves" would look stunning hanging on a wall. Made about 1890 - in Pennsylvania. It's all cotton with many different fabrics being used for the triangles of the "waves.".
The several Yellow and White Borders and the Triangles carry the overall color tone of the quilt, but equally of interest are the many printed fabrics of the small triangles that combine in the mind to create bold diagonals and choppy "seas.".
Various mute colored printed fabrics form triangles that surround solid Turkey Red squares to form the "OCEAN WAVES" quilt pattern. "OCEAN WAVES" Quilt. The large Squares are quilted with "delectible mountains" quilting.
Graphic 1860s Ocean waves quilt with swag border! This glorious cotton 1860s ocean waves quilt is hand pieced, hand appliquéd and hand quilted, with unusual light brown shamrocks in the background and a swag border. It measures 72" x 84". There is quilting around the appliqué and around the perimeter of each piece and in a straight line and ripple designs in the background, all at 5–6 stitches to the inch. The hand stitched binding is solid brown, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seeds inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. The dazzling design, nice early fabrics, and great condition make this mid 19th century collectors quilt stand out!

The sale is for an absolutely fantastic circa 1890 handmade quilt. It is in the ocean waves pattern. The colors are blue and white. There are embroidered pansies in the panels as well.It is in good condition. There are some spots one particular on the back I have pictured all. There are also some small holes in one area and one in. The quilt has been washed many times and is soft. I have not attempted to clean but will leave this up to the new owner. It measures 76“ x 82“. This piece is out of an estate and not new. I’ve pictured all quadrants so you can zoom up on all areas to see it up close. The photographs are large Part of my description. Please ask any questions.
