How to Use the Nintendo DS Video Game Chargers

Nintendo is no stranger to different types of consoles. One of its handheld systems was the Nintendo DS, notable for its two-screen design and several variations over the years. The system was also the company's second-ever handheld console to use a dedicated charger as opposed to replaceable batteries, which let players keep their systems powered up more easily and ready to play.

How do you use a DS handheld console charger?

In order to charge Nintendo DS video game chargers, all you need to do is follow these simple steps, which will work for all versions of the DS console (original, i, and Lite). The steps are as follows:

  • Step 1: Plug the charge cable into the back of the DS in its external extension connector slot, which is located next to the cartridge slot.
  • Step 2: Unlock the prongs on the AC adapter and plug it into a wall outlet. This should connect the DS to a power supply.
  • Step 3: If the console is charging, an orange light should begin to glow on the front of the DS.
  • Step 4: Allow the system to continue charging until the orange light goes out. This indicates that it is fully charged, at which point you can unplug the adapter and the cable and play your games at full power.
Are the DS, DSi, and DS Lite chargers the same?

No, the charge devices used by these three consoles are not the same. While their means of charging is the same (via an AC adapter plugged into a wall outlet), the opposite end of the charging cable and the slots they plug into are shaped differently. As such, you would need a different device to charge the original DS, a DSi console, and a DS Lite console.

What colors are DS charge devices available in?

A DS adapter can come in a few different colors, including black, dark gray, and light gray. There is no difference in performance between colors, and a charger of any color will be able to charge a compatible DS handheld console.

How long will it take to charge a DS?

How long a DS takes to charge will depend on several factors, like the age, condition, and model of the console. In general, it can take about three to five hours to charge a Nintendo DS console.
