Everything You Need to Know Before Selecting an Xbox 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 4GB is a home video game console. The Xbox 360 is a DVD player and a multimedia box in addition to being a gaming platform. There is also a wide range of accessories available for this device, including controllers, remotes, dance mats, and motion-capture cameras.

What is the Xbox 360?

The Microsoft Xbox 360 is a gaming and home entertainment console. It can play both physical and digital media, including video games, DVDs, CDs, and MP3s. There were two distinct versions of the Xbox 360 4GB released by Microsoft. These are the:

  • Xbox 360 S 4GB, which was introduced on August 3, 2010
  • Xbox 360 E 4GB, which was introduced on June 10, 2013
How much internal storage is there, and is it upgradeable?

Both the Xbox 360 S 4GB and Xbox 360 E 4GB provide 4GB of internal storage. This storage is provided via flash memory. The available storage space is expandable by purchasing and installing an Xbox 360 S or E hard drive or HDD.

Which HDDs are supported, and how are they installed?

Microsoft and some third parties make hard drives that are specifically designed for the Xbox. Sizes include 250 and 500GB. These are all pre-flashed. Using other 2.5-inch HDDs is technically possible but not officially supported. To install your new official HDD:

  • Turn off the Xbox 360 console.
  • Insert the HDD into the HDD slot in the rear of the unit.
  • Gently make sure it snaps into place.
  • Turn on the system and wait for the drive to be prepared.
Does the Xbox 360 require an internet connection?

No. While the Xbox 360 console does support online connectivity, it doesnt require it and is fully operational in offline mode. Note the Xbox may have updates available that were released after you acquired your unit, and an internet connection can simplify that process. However, you can also update the system using a USB flash drive. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Download the update using a web-connected PC.
  • Extract the patch archive to the root folder of a USB flash drive.
  • Attach that USB flash drive to your Xbox.
  • Restart your console.
  • When prompted, select "Yes" to update your system.
Are Xbox 360 games forward- and/or backward-compatible?

Yes. The Xbox 360 is backward-compatible with the original Xbox. Many games are available for offline or link play, and the original Xbox disc is required. Xbox 360 games are also forward-compatible with the Xbox One. Many games can be played both online and offline, including cross-play. Physical discs are supported, but youre also able to use digital versions of the game.
