Taking a look at IBM Convertible 2-in-1 Laptops

When you're working on a project from home, it's nice to be able to sit on the couch and get comfortable while you work. Having a convertible 2-in-1 laptop may give you the flexibility to work or play where and when you like. Lenovo bought the IBM brand's computer business in 2005, and one of the products that they manufacture is their convertible 2-in-1 laptop.

What are some common IBM 2-in-1 Laptops?

There is a wide variety of products, but their most notable tablet/laptop PCs are a part of their ThinkPad Lenovo line:

  • Lenovo ThinkPad Lenovo T41 Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC
  • Lenovo Thinkpad T60 Core Duo
  • Lenovo ThinkPad X201
What are some features of a convertible laptop?

Most 2-in-1 combination laptops have both a keyboard and mouse configuration as well as a touchscreen. For many of them, the laptop's touchscreen can be detached from the rest of the PC product to be used as a standalone tablet. This is excellent for portability. Some technical specifications of this product are:

  • Windows XP/ Windows 7/Windows Vista OS
  • HDD (hard drive)
  • 60GB hard drive
  • Bluetooth capabilities enabled
  • USB 2.0
What are the capabilities of these computers?

The Lenovo ThinkPad Lenovo T41 Microsoft Windows XP and the Lenovo Thinkpad T60 Core Duo come equipped with an Intel Pentium processor. The Lenovo ThinkPad X201 comes equipped with an Intel i7 processor, making it better for more powerful operations. They are commonly used as work products. Other uses may include:

  • Reading or writing in an outdoor setting.
  • Bringing a computer with you on a trip to do work.
  • Watching videos on the way to work.
With which 2-in-1 products can I detach the screen?

The Lenovo ThinkPad Lenovo T41 Microsoft Windows XP allows the detachment of the screen from the keyboard for use as its own standalone capability. The other products do contain touchscreen capabilities but not the ability to detach the screen from the rest of the product.

What is the processing power like when detaching the screen?

The T41 contains all of its processing power and HDD space on the main body of the device. This main body is the screen that is being detached. In essence, the keyboard is the only thing that will be sacrificed if you choose to separate the components in this particular convertible 2-in-1 product. The on-screen board will replace the physical one, so the choice is truly up to you at any given moment and based upon portability versus usability.
