What You Need to Know About HP LaserJet Color Printers

Since 1939, HP has been offering new technology to consumers and has been offering printers since the 1980s. Whether you need a color printer for your home or for your business, you will find HP LaserJet color printers to fit your needs. HP offers a wide variety of printers that vary by size, connectivity, type, resolution, and memory.

What types of HP LaserJet color printers are available?

HP makes four main types of HP LaserJet color printers, but note that these types of printers are not mutually exclusive. For example, Workgroup printers may also be all-in-one models or wide-format models. There are LaserJet printers that offer two-sided prints, there are printers that can print on professional-quality paper, and there are printers that can connect to Wi-Fi. Here are some additional types of LaserJet printers:

  • All-in-one-printers - These printers serve as fax machines, copiers, and scanners, allowing you to complete multiple tasks with your printer. The HP LaserJet Enterprise M680F is an example of an all-in-one Laserjet printer.
  • Standard printers - These printers are run-of-the-mill printers without any extra functionality. An example of one of HP's standard printers is the HP M553N B5L24A Color LaserJet.
  • Workgroup printers - These printers, like the HP Color LaserJet Professional CP5225dn, are made for high-volume printing, so they work well for businesses or anyone who prints large quantities.
  • Large format printers - These printers are also called "wide-format" printers. They are used with large rolls of paper for banners, posters, wallpapers, murals, and more. HP's large-format printer models include the HP OfficeJet 7740 Pro Wide-Format All-in-One Printer.
Does your HP LaserJet Color Printer use ink?

Laser printers never use ink; they use toner cartridges. Most HP LaserJet Color printers have four cartridges that include one for each color: black (K), cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). The different colors mix to create the images for your print projects.

How do you know when to change the cartridges?

When one of the print cartridges begins to get low, the control panel for your printer will display a message recommending that you order a replacement. The printer will continue printing using the current toner until it runs out. At that point, the control panel will display a message telling you to replace the cartridge, which is a simple process.

How do you change the toner?

The exact process for changing your toner will vary based on the model, but generally all you need to do is open the front of your printer, find the empty cartridge, and remove it. After removing the new toner from the box and bag, gently shake it, remove the shipping locks, and put the new cartridge where the old one was located.
